How to create Email drafts from new Google Sheet rows while keeping a human in the loop

Relay.app is an automation tool that lets you automate actions across Gmail, Google Sheets, and many other apps. In this guide, we'll show you how to use Relay.app to automatically run the GmailCreate draft” action for each Google SheetsRow added” event.

Add a Google Sheets "row added" trigger

After creating your playbook, you can proceed to add your trigger. The trigger detects changes in your connected apps and runs your playbook in response.

To setup this playbook, click "Add trigger" and then select "Row added" under Google Sheets. Then, select the sheet (in this case New leads). If this is your first time using a Google Sheets integration in Relay.app, you'll be prompted to connect your Google Sheets account.

Now, every time a new row is added in Google Sheets, your playbook will run automatically.

2

Add the human in the loop and "Create draft email" steps

Now you can create your human in the loop step. For this click on human in the loop and select an action e.g. "Get data input". In our example we want someone to review the leads added to decide if it is worth reaching out by marking them as yes or no.

As a next step, you can create a path, that takes different actions (e.g. creating an Email draft to reach out) depending on the decision in the step above.

Now you can create your draft email. You can choose any Email integration. In this scenario, we chose Gmail. Add a new step and select "Create draft" from the list of Gmail actions.

Connect Gmail to Relay.app if you haven't already, then fill out the details like send as, to, CC, BCC, labels, subject, body, and attachments. You can reference fields from Google Sheets to automatically pass along the right data.

3

Turn on the playbook

When you are done with the playbook, it's time to turn it on.

The playbook will now run automatically whenever a new row is added in Google Sheets. You can also click "Check now" to do a manual check whenever you'd like.
